Introduction of Program Assessment Plans Glossary of Assessment TermsAssessment - a systematic and continuous process of gathering and analyzing information about student learning outcomes to improve programs and individual student progress. Institutional Outcomes (Core Knowledge) - agreed upon basic knowledge required of all Blue Ridge CTC graduates. Currently, this includes 1) Communications and Life Skills, 2) Social Awareness, 3) Critical and Analytical Thinking, and 4) Career Knowledge and Related Skills. Program Outcomes - specific knowledge, skills and values that students develop during a college program of study. Achievement of these outcomes will assist the student in obtaining the Institutional Outcomes. Course Outcomes - specific knowledge, skills and values that students develop during a college course. Achievement of these outcomes will assist the student in obtaining the Program Outcomes. Objectives - specific activities, knowledge, and skills which students will use to obtain course and program outcomes. Rubrics - specific sets of criteria that clearly define for both student and teacher what a range of acceptable and unacceptable performance looks like. Criteria define descriptors of ability at each level of performance and assign values to each level. Levels referred to are proficiency levels which describe a continuum from excellent to unacceptable product.
